Pros - Server was nice and tried her best, unfortunately management and the kitchen did everything they could to throw her under the bus. - weather was beautiful Cons - Food is straight out of a Sysco bag. Crab cake sandwich was beyond poor and borderline inedible. - I've seen better burgers come from a bag frozen at Walmart. - They were out of most Draft beers and when I requested a Budweiser bottle on last resort it was hot - this brings me to the "seafood" nachos.WHATEVER YOU DO HERE, DO NOT GET THEM. shrimp is straight out of a bag in a place where you can get some of the worlds best shrimp by driving 10min to the dock. The fake crab meat was awful and the chips were stale. First time out the cheese wasn't even melted, second time out I just told them no thanks. This seriously may be the worst dish I've ever had at a beach restaurant and that's saying a lot. Congrats Eddy Teach's Bottom line - if you want a beer, come here. If you want to eat, skip it unless you are too drunk to walk.

Definitely a great place on the island. We had some awesome oysters and a great blackened tuna sandwich for lunch today.

No trip to SGI is complete without a trip to Eddy Teach's! I had read previous reviews so I went in not expecting a 5 star restaurant, but a cool place to hang and eat oysters. Well, I wasn't disappointed. Seating is outside on picnic tables or on stools at a bar area. There was also live music. I went during the oyster happy hour from 3:30pm-4:30pm. Oysters are $6.50 a dozen. You are asked how many dozen you want and given a ticket. You wait and listen for your number to be called as the oysters are shucked to order. The oysters, like all the oysters from Apalachicola bay are just the best things I have ever eaten. A cold beer, the island breeze, and fresh shucked oysters, what more could you want? I also ordered the Cheddar George oysters and they were just okay. I think the toppings were a little too busy and took away from the great oyster taste. Also, I think they are steamed. Would have been better if they were broiled or char grilled. On Wednesday nights there is trivia, but I didn't make out that night. Too busy relaxing on the beach. Maybe next time.......

Fun place and delish oysters...we go every year. Not a lot of seating and nothing fancy. Beer is cold and oysters are great, so this spot has become a tradition every year. And they let my dog sit outside with me, so bonus!

Great, friendly place to have oysters and choice draft beers in open, un-air conditioned comfort. Always a party going on. Best place to meet or just observe locals and tourists alike. Live music on weekends.

You're bound to find at least one member of my family each time you come here. Excellent ambiance, great beer, great service. I dont eat oysters, so I can't speak to them- I actually have only ordered a hot dog from their menu before. Make sure to tip Emily, our family's favorite bartender, well when you come here! :)

Thank the heavens for Eddy Teach's!!! If it weren't for this place on St. George, there'd be no life on the island! Our first time to St. George. We would end up there every night after driving over to Apalachicola for dinner..finally the last night we decided no need to leave the island, let's just hang at Eddy Teach's...after having had the oyster happy hour that day. Super friendly place, great staff!!! A real good vibe with a couple good bands over the days we were there...8/3-8/6/12. The locals were definately friendly as were their dogs! Ate a few other stuff there such as tacos and grilled cheese and all was pretty good and price friendly. I know the place may have its issues with some of their locals (quite the drinkers) but hopefully they can find the balance. The night we were there one of the locals was quite drunk, friendly though and chatty, amusing...but he crossed the line when he insulted a woman who worked there, he was swiftly told he had to leave, and he actually calmly left with his tail between his legs. Hopefully one day I will be back around that way and Eddy Teach's will still be giving the really sweet good vibes! The place makes you feel like you are somewhere else...like the way the keys used to be. Peace!

My husband and I ate lunch there twice over Memorial Day weekend - great local place - nothing fancy but food is good -- the oysters are actually great! Live music - Nite Flight is a great band that plays frequently.

This is our favorite place to eat on St. George Island. As Melissa says, you have to come with the right attitude - if you're looking for something fast with quick in and out service, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for good beer, good food, and good company, you've found the right place. The beer is great! Guinness, Bass, Smithwick's, Strongbow. Yum! The Black and Tans are my favorite. As far as food goes, I'm not a big oyster fan, but the crab legs are some of the best I've ever had. Large, clean, and they don't stick to the inside of the shell. Other items we regularly order are the peel and eat shrimp, shrimp tacos, and can't forget the cheeseburgers. Last year they had a fish fry on Fridays - actually ate there for lunch AND dinner that day. Stop by, chill out, and enjoy the island! PS - they recently changed locations. It is fine, but doesn't have the same feel as the original location...

Nice place. Scuzbag employees, third world sanitation, warm oysters and animals freely roaming around. Avoid this place unless you have a penchant for acquiring food-borne illnesses.

This place gets great reviews so I am not sure what is going on. Looks to us that someone is stuffing the ballot box. The place is a bit dirty and pirate like. That's OK if the food safety is OK. I ordered oysters on the half shell. The gal shucking was having a bad day and swearing. The oysters were a great product, but they were served on a tray without ice at room temperature. Something I have never seen done. Also there was bad cocktail sauce. They had their own sauce which was in a squeeze bottle and brown. It seemed like horseradish, but was not good. They also had a bottle of red sauce that was the consistency of tomato soup. Not a good experience. My wife's hot oysters were great. The bartender was incompetent, confused and slow. The only side dishes are Lay's chips - no fries or anything like that. All in all we could hardly wait to get out.

Great place for lunch. It is a bar so avoid at night if that isn't what you are looking for. Best specialty oysters in the area. I would not do raw here.

    (4)
  • Matt P.

Oysters were fresh, and available with many options. Outside seating, nothing fancy. The food was decent, but overpriced. Service was bad, server had a rotten attitude. Would only repeat if I were with friends and drinking, as this seems to be the target crowd.

  • Jennifer E.

If you're looking for some foo-foo seafood place, this is NOT the place for you. If you're looking for some delectable fresh raw oysters and friendly company, then by all means - stop here! The price on oyster happy hour has gone up to $4.50, but that's still well worth it for a dozen Apalachicola Bay oysters. Even though the weather is warm now, the oysters are still fresh, briny and deeeelish!

  • Rita D.

Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. We wanted something light on a chilly December afternoon, so we both ordered the oyster stew. It took forever to arrive. Even after the waitress told us it was "on its way," probably another 15 minutes went by before it finally arrived. I honestly think they didn't have any made, so threw together some butter, milk, a handful of oysters and chopped onions and warmed it up. The onions were still raw. Mostly, it just tasted like melted butter. And it was way overpriced at that! What a disappointment.

Fun, casual, good beer and good food. Try the Philly Cheesesteak!

This is a great little local dive! Bikers welcome! We ate here after the Oyster Spat festival last year. Delicious Apalachicola Bay oysters are served on the half-shell. Very inexpensive. True local flavor. Find this place! This is on St. George Island, Florida... NOT New York, despite what the address says.

Best Raw Oysters on the Island. I always look forward to our visit! Make sure to write on the wall say you were there.

I love good beer joints and this is a great one. Open air, rustic, casual to the max drinking establishment that will serve you a fine meal of steamed or boiled seafood. Beer is cold. Locals and tourists mix for a great atmosphere. Live music occasionally. Best time to visit this place is during a rain storm when the heat is broken and there's little else to do at the beach. Long live Eddy Teach's!

It takes alot for me to think of a place as a 5 star restaurant. Even more for me to reccomend a place to friends (mainly because I want to retain said friendships!) Eddy Teach's is one of thoose places I can not only reccomend but also give 5 stars too! Now don't expect fast service at all. Alot of it is serve yourself or just wait. If you come with the right attitude though you can chill out, grab a seat (if you can find one) and prepare to have a great meal surrounded by people who know each other, their dogs and a great laid back atmosphere. Every year we visit St. George and eat here almost every day. Mom makes the most amazing mushy peas (BRING BACK FISH FRY!!) and the oysters are awesome. Great toppings, yummy food, good beer selection. Basically this is the go to spot for us. We have never been dissapointed, always been treated like family and crave this place when we are back home. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Make sure to get a hug from Mom as she gives some of the BEST ever hugs (seriously)! all in all~ a great local dive that has not sold out and consistantly delivers.

Coolest spot to hang out on the island. Cheap beer, cheap oysters and fun people.

I wanted to like this place. Really, I did. It's got a totally great look. Coastal Florida, rustic. Picnic tables. Pitchers of beer for a good price. Cold oysters. I love animals, and the Lab on the floor inside the bar was cool. While we were there, two more dogs showed up. You can't smoke inside, but the dogs are OK. The bartender noticed some stuff on the floor and came around to ask the dog owner.."Is that vomit?" Check please.

Fun local bar, awesome oysters but expensive OJ ($2 for a small glass). Sit outside and watch the world go by. You must get the oysters with jalapeno's, awesome.

  • Beth B.

What a gem! We had heard about his place and went out on 10/28 for some oysters. I had them raw, hubby steamed. They are not the biggest in the area (Papa Joe's in Apalach), but they are the best value in the area and very tasty. This bar is outdoor, picnic tables outside and an indoor/outdoor small bar. All locals. Beer and wine only, but with real wineglasses. They have great beer on tap--Smithwick's and Guinness and tons of bottled. Great service! We went back on Halloween and had oysters again--again very good. If we lived there, we'd be regulars in a minute. Nice people, good food, good atmosphere. Highly recommend.

After eating oysters for lunch over in Eastpoint that afternoon, my spouse and I (mostly me) decided it was time for some more over here. We stayed at the St. George Inn, which is right across the street, so luckily for moi I did not have to drive anywhere. There is a sign there saying "Eddy Teach's - keeping the locals drunk since 2006." Admittedly, I was that way before we got there. We found out that we had just missed the daily "oyster happy hour" where the prices were not quite as steep. Oh well, now we know for next time around. I had two dozen baked with Asiago cheese and garlic butter. Very tasty, but they were microwaved a bit too long. I also had the rosemary-seasoned shrimp, which brought me a dozen medium sized shrimp surrounded by a bed of coleslaw. My spouse had a shrimp topped salad, which she said was pretty good. The highlight here, at least this time around, was the entertainment. Maybe next time we will go for some other items, depending on our next adventure @ Lynn's Quality Oysters in Eastpoint

Visiting from Indiana. service was fair atmosphere is very good only thing you could order from here and be satisfied with is oysters. All other food is at your own risk.

Went for Oyster Happy Hour and was disappointed in the uneven quality of the oysters. Friendly but slow service, in a fun, funky atmosphere

    (3)
  • Missy N.

A fun time. I had the crab leg shrimp meal and my honey had nachos. Super fast service and super friendly wait staff. Music was pretty good acoustic guitar dude to boot. Only downside is no liquor but even with that limitation this place rocks.

    (5)
  • Tracy P.

The band was great, but the food is OK. Service was good as well. You need to go there just to see it. They allow writing on any surface--walls, counters, doors, etc. Very rustic and open atmosphere, no enclosed areas. The bugs on the oysters are free! (Yes, bugs are terrible at St. George, so just expect it).

Been here a few times over the last couple of years, and I've read the reviews. To me, this place is the best dive BAR on St. George Island. I use all caps on BAR, because the crappy reviews, and the crappy comments I heard at the BAR today are from folks with kids who either expect it to be McDonalds or a restaurant with real silverware. Folks, this is a BAR, with bras hanging from the taxidermied deer head, with bartenders who swear, and where locals come to DRINK BEER. It is not the place to take your grandparents for their anniversary, not the place to take the kids who whine for chicken nuggets and want to color on the place mats. Heck, it isn't even a restaurant, it is a BAR. If you want a place to go on a hot afternoon for a cold beer and a dozen beautiful oysters, don't shower, just go. If you took a shower and want a waitress, go a few blocks over to the Blue Parrot. I love Teach's for what it is, but if you go expecting air conditioning and a wait staff, you will be sorely disappointed.

Perfect spot for the locale. I hit it at Oyster happy hour. Those Appalachicola oysters are succulent and sweet. This was such a gem. All I wanted was a spot for a pint and some local bivalves and this fit the bill to the T. Even though it's mainly a vacation island a lot of the patrons were back there for the nth time cause they new a good thing Did not stay for the live entertainment but the stage was outdoors and it has the setting sun as a backdrop. Totally casual atmosphere Staff was friendly and the proud display of Anfield colors warmed the cockles of me 'eart. Chilli dog was quite good and the burgers were decent. Frozen Strawberry daquiris were refreshing too. But seriously just work your way through the oysters and brew Price about $15 per person

  • Sam S.

Don't come here for the food! Ordered seafood nachos that lacked cheese and anything other than "Krab" and a few pieces of shrimp. Shrimp Po Boy was mediocre. Much better places on the island for food...As a bar it looks like it could be fun, but unhappy bar staff detract from the "cool" atmosphere.

Absolutely the best place to go on St George Island. Great oysters and atmosphere. All the other places are just OK. This place is the real deal.

I'm a fan of Eddy Teach's. I find time to go every visit I make to SGI. If you're looking for something nicer, head in to Apalach...but if you are okay with music, a lively crowd and an open air dining experience, you really should stop by. During happy hour they have unbeatable prices for oysters...and of course these are crazy fresh from the bay oysters (best in the world IMHO). Beer menu is alright, they've got a few nicer options on tap (Swamp Head/Sweet Water/etc). Ask about walking the plank, but BEWARE of the consequences (trust me, I've done it twice).

    (4)
  • Kristin O.

We were visiting SGI and came here for happy hour with family. I wasn't initially a fan of oysters but after this experience they won me over. We ordered 5 dozen oysters for super cheap as well as a couple of beers. The oysters were so fresh they must have been caught and shucked that morning. I loved the fact that they were cold too! They also had a little band playing outside that made for a fun experience.

    (4)
  • Bobbie M.

Let's call it what it is. A great local place with wonderful help. The oysters were fresh. Beer was draft and cold with a great selection. We had 1 doz fresh and another mixed steamed. All very good. Don't let the outside scare you off. Very cool inside and dog friendly outside. Sam took care of us and she is a breath of fresh air. The owner here is very cool as well. We will be back.

    (5)
  • Lind L.

Great location, great atmosphere, get oysters! And a stage with good bands. Rent a bike and ride there and around the island!

  • Don S.

I ordered a shrimp Po-boy ($12.99) and my wife order the Croissant Shrimp Salad ($13.99) The Po-boy had about six medium shrimp on a 5" bun. It would be what I would expect for a $4.99 sandwich. My wife's order had now flavor and lacked content. The beer and the bagged chips were tasty. This is a social bar and I would not recommend it for a meal. Service was average.

    (1)
  • Jhoshua C.

WOW. Really good food.... I am a vegetarian but my partner had a great time eating the crab legs. Very fresh. Tables are nearly impossible to find on a busy night, which sucks, the place is small. Bathroom could definitely use some TLC, one of the waiters was awful. Bugs will get you if you dont have repellent. With all these negative things the food quality was SO good, it still deserves five stars! Delicious.

I had been following this raw bar on Facebook for months preceding my weeks' vacation on St George Island and expected it to become one of our go-to places for lunch and dinner for the week. Went on a week day night for dinner and drinks and found a nice size happy crowd - as we expected there was no live music this night. Turns out there was one bartender/waitress/do everything person working. Long wait at the bar to get drinks to take back to our outside picnic table. Much longer wait to place our order. We started with a couple of dozen oysters on the half and peel and eat shrimp. We got no further. The shrimp were just fair but the oysters were bad to worse. On arrival they seemed dark and did not smell the freshest. The first few were strong tasting and then we hit some that were just plain bad. We stopped there. It's hard to believe that whoever was shucking them was not detecting this. Once again a long wait for our bartender/waitress/do everything person to stop by to check on us. When we complained about the oysters she said she would take the uneaten dozen off our bill but no apology, nothing. We paid, left and never returned and will never return again. Very disappointing.

  • Jaime G.

Eddy Teach's is the epitome of a lowcountry seafood bar. I always try to slip away or bring the crew here for a dozen oysters, good live music, and cold beer. It's equipped with picnic tables outside and a small stage with an accompanying "dance floor".

    (4)
  • Victor D.

Open air, lively crowd, limited menu, fresh oysters, and a large beer selection. If you've spent time in college you've no doubt been to a bar like this somewhere. It's a no frills bar. The success of this bar rests mostly on the atmosphere created by its patrons who have hung bras on deer heads, nailed license plates on the walls and written ALL over nearly every inch of this place. I enjoyed my visit and intend to return someday soon. Previous posts point to beer price confusion which I encountered as well. Bottom line is: don't visit if you're not accustomed to a lively crowd who enjoys friendship, beer and fresh oysters. And, did I mention that the oysters were great?

    (3)
  • Michelle M.

Laid back, friendly, local place to enjoy fresh air, live music, and good food. I didn't mind the older crowd, or the signatures anywhere and everywhere there was wood, the tables, the pillars, the floor of the deck, the bar, and the ceiling. I had to get oysters, as this place and the reviews bragged about the fresh delicious oysters, and they were! My only complaint was although I loved that the oysters were literally caught that day (and they say once they are out they are out if the bay is closed), at least clean the sand out a little better. Fresh and delicious, just didn't order a side of grit. I really liked the cajun seasoning on the crab legs as well. If you aren't a seafood person, there are a couple non-seafood options, but this is definitely a great place to go for oysters. I wish we could have stayed longer to hear the live band play, but still enjoyed my time there.

    (4)
  • Linda S.

Or 3.5 stars. There are few good options on St. George, which makes Eddy's look pretty great, Because you just don't want to drive to Apalachicola every night. Eddy's is a dive, with all of the character and characters that implies. Stick to what they do best: beer, fresh raw oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp well-seasoned with Old Bay. Easy, fun, satisfying. My sangria was pretty sad, with no fruit whatsoever. The "Cheddar George" baked oysters topped with spinach, cheddar, bacon and jalapeño were ok but could have been improved by better quality bacon and cheese and fresh peppers. The kid's pizza... was a kids pizza. Go for the basics, relax and enjoy the fact that you're at the beach. It beats being at work any day.

    (3)
  • Trout R.

Ya gotta hit Eddy's when you're on the island. Sure the service stinks, the customers are drunks, the food is atrocious! But oyster eaters love the oysters; personally, I don't eat sea snots. But it is a great time at an open air bar where you'll meet people from all over the country and world. I'm headed that way soon and will no doubt spend several afternoons listening to some jackass talk about redfish, seatrout, or flounder - wait, that's me! For you cheapskates, here is a tip, they generally have Nattie lights for a buck (or is it a buck and a half now?) off the menu. Me, I like to drain a few draft PBRs while I soak in the ambiance. The bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, but just take a big breath and hold it while you go. We ride bikes in so we don't have to deal with Franklin County's finest. No worries at Eddy's, it is a good time. See ya soon boys!

We came here for lunch on Sunday based on the positive Yelps. The setting is as previously stated Funky, and intentionally so. I think that we were a little "mature" for the desired demographic but it was not unpleasant. The (only one, as far as I could see) staff was affable and prompt. She had a dozen raw oysters ($11.50), which were hefty, plump and shiny - crackerjack examples of oysterosity; as well as a side salad ($4.40) which was teeny and nondescript. She also had a sweet tea ($2.00, refills extra). I had a shrimp wrap ($11.50) which was not really a wrap: three or four steamed shrimp, some baby spinach leaves and a small amount of dressing each in two soft taco shells. I also had a diet soda. The shrimp were fresh, but a little on the dry side with not a lot of flavor. My general take on this place is that it is overpriced for what you get - a shack that uses plastic ware and paper plates should not be charging these kind of prices. I think that it would be a good place to go and get a beer (they had an enormous selection and the prices on drinks seemed more reasonable), and if you want oysters, go on the Wednesday happy hour when they are selling them for $5.95/dozen

    (3)
  • Ou G.

It's a dive. It's a dive. If you don't like beer, nor raw oysters, nor loud music, then don't go to Eddy Teach's Raw Bar. If you want tablecloths, if you want even clean tables, stay in Atlanta or Memphis or even Tallahassee (forget, that, don't ever stay in Tallahassee). But if you are looking for the best raw (and steamed) oysters in America, and you want to wash it down with draft beer, and listen to Rusty and Debbie playing Allman Brothers cover songs, then this is your place. It's a little expensive, with pitchers around $15 and a dozen oysters at $11.50. But as I looked around, nobody's getting rich there. You go there because nobody's cooking after spending eight hours on the beach, riding the waves, and watching the dolphins. Don't expect much. You'll be surprised.

    (5)
  • Patrick D.

For an absolute dive, a great place. Go for the oyster happy hour. Have a beer, or have several. Above average selection for being on a barrier island. Gets busy in the afternoon and evening. Bar staff was always friendly and conversational. I'll be back.

    (4)
  • Rami E.

the seafood nachos are a terrible value for the money. i would feel perfectly fine paying around $7 for them. if they contained about 3 times the seafood i think they would be a good value.

    (3)
  • Brenda W.

Great place to hang out on the island! Super fresh oysters, with lots of toppings to choose from, or just on the half shell if that's your thing. Recommending to all of my coworkers who go here for training!

    (5)
  • Martin K.

Oysters were ok at best. My wife had the gumbo, which came in a plastic bowl, and looked and tasted like bad fish stock. My farther -in-law had a grilled chicken sandwich which looked so unappetizing and tasted as it looked. This is a local bar for local people....nothing for you tourists here !

    (1)
  • robert j.

This place is a dive, but in a good way. Dont expect much in terms of being fancy, but the vibe is fun, energetic and down home. Others made comments on the beer prices, this is true because the bar tenders are sneaky, unless you explicitly tell the exactly what you want they will give you the bad deal. A 12 OZ stella is 3.50 and the 16oz 6, unless you tell the bartender you want the 12oz, they give you the 16oz, which is a bad deal. Fyi, a natty light is 1.50 and the atmosphere is great.

    (4)
  • Des R.

I am only giving this dump one star because I can't see an option to give zero stars...the food is overpriced and undercooked the beer is $6 rip off..the music is good but I would never eat there again. The nachos are served cold and the waitress said that's normal. Our chicken salad was served in a thimble - basically. Better places on the island to visit - do your homework.

    (1)
  • Braintanya G.

It's very basic. Oysters taste like pizza we ordered the head but still good. Service was okay. I asked for some sauce and they forgot I had to remind them after waiting. Prices on beer were high. Not to impressed but if its the only place to go it will do....

    (2)
  • Raymund S.

We were on the island for a day, and went in for a light snack, I mean a bowl of gumbo and a salad light snack. But the gumbo was out of this world good with great flavor and a fresh taste. What my partner thought we little pieces of vermicelli were actually crab bits with big boiled shrimps. BY THE WAY this is a RAW BAR so dont come looking for a fried fish plate. James, our waiter was real professional and helpful, even when he got a few more tables outside which he seemed to be running the bar by himself too. Thanks James for the state park recommendation it was really cool.

They raised prices recently because our receipt prices were higher than our menu prices. Despite that the food, atmosphere and service were all good.

    (3)
  • John B.

We've been here three times...it's always on our list of stops. Great oysters, crab cakes, shrimp and cold beer. Ambience? Not so much...but that's not why you'd stop here. Friendly staff and laid back locals make it a nice experience.

    (4)
  • Raven T.

Loved Eddy Teach's! Popped over for a couple dozen and some beers for an early dinner so it was not super crowded. We asked the bartender about the oysters and she grabbed us a couple to try before we committed, that is some great customer service. We heard that they had half price dozens in the late afternoon but that was right during our naptime so we missed it everyday. We will definitely go back when we return to SGI.
